Today, tens of millions of people live as refugees. Their vulnerable lives represent a real challenge for governments and organizations around the world. Understanding the causes and consequences of human displacement by gaining the academic and practical skills to deal with its challenges is crucial for addressing the causes of displacement and effectively managing responses to provide real support for people living as refugees.

The establishment of the Professional Diploma for Refugee Studies and Forced Migration was approved by the Board of Trustees of the University of Jordan in 2017 and settled at the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan. The Center expects this diploma to help understand the impact of the refugee crises on Jordan in particular and the Middle East region in general.


With the Professional Diploma in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies, the Center for Strategic Studies offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of forced migration and refugees. The courses included under the diploma is designed to help students develop an in-depth understanding of human displacement and forced migration. Students will gain practical experience through an internship where he/she will have the opportunity to practically apply what he/she has learnt during the course of the education.


Objectives of the Diploma 

Comprehensive study of human displacement both globally and in the MENA region 

Deep understanding of the economic, political, and social factors of refugee crises 

Interpretation of the role of humanitarian intervention and community building in conflict regions 

Gain practical experience in the field of forced migration. 


General Rules and Conditions 

1. Areas of specialty of admission to this program: Any area of knowledge; holders of the Bachelors degree in any area of knowledge. 

2. Language used: English will be the programme teaching language. 

3. Program duration: The program duration is (8) months.

The Center received the first intake in October 2017 until June 2018.

The Center for Strategic Studies announces the beginning of the receipt of applications for the second intake to enroll in the Professional Diploma of Refugees Studies and Forced Migration until 15 July 2018 from 10 am to 1 pm during official working days.

The duration of study in the program is eight months, the program consists of 24 credit hours divided into two semesters each semester 12 hours, and the language of instruction in English.


Teaching begins for the second intake on 9th September 2018 until 16th May 2019.

The cost of the full study is (JD 2400) for Jordanians and (9600 USD) for non-Jordanians paid on two, three or four payments.

Admission Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree from a university recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Jordan as a minimum.

- Proficiency in English: writing and speaking, as all lectures, examinations and research projects are presented in English.

- Passing the personal interview. Only those who met the requirements of admission will be called to the interview.

2- A certified copy of the bachelor's degree and a certified copy of the registration of the bachelor's degree (For those holding non-Jordanian certificates, please attach the equalization of a certificate approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to the certificates issued by foreign and official Arab universities).

3- Proof of proficiency in English.

4- Three personal pictures.

5- A certified copy of the ID or passport.

6. A certified copy of the birth certificate (for Jordanians).

7- A copy of the secondary school certificate.

Applications will be received at the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan. The application will not be accepted if the certified copies are not submitted.

The Center reserves the right to fill the vacancies. The maximum number of students who will be admitted to the program is 15 students.
